The question asks what music inspires me.

I like Sovietwave very much. There are so many examples. Here are two I find quite awesome.

I realized there could be beauty outside the classical norms thanks to Ligeti.

I was only interested in classical acoustic instruments until I heard Kitaro and Tomito. I already posted a link to Queen Millenium. Here is an amazing Tomito album.

Also I like Latvian music in general. One of my favorites is Zodiaks. Their album Disco Alliance was very popular in the Soviet era.

Here are two of my favorite music videos from Latvia. The first one is Native Language. The second is Green Song. The lyrics for both are available through online search.

Here is an English pop song I just discovered within the last week, while I was looking for oldies music. Awesome video.

I'm also inspired by some classical and sacred music but I would not know where to begin with examples. I could start with Gregorian chant and go from there. Among modern composers of classical form music, I esteem Lorenzo Perosi very highly. He is best known for his sacred music which is still sung by Catholic choirs in Italia and elsewhere. But he also composed some amazing instrumental music. His music is among the most beautiful ever composed. Classical music lovers who think the 20th century was a musical wasteland may change their mind after listening to Perosi. He inspires me not only by listening to his music, but also just by knowing such a composer lived in the 20th century.

Here are two examples, one from his sacred music and one from his instrumental music.

I think Hindemith is interesting. I study his books on composition. He was attempting to update Gradus ad Parnassum by Fux for the 20th century.

Good luck everyone.

P.S. I was feeling too gloomy so I made a few revisions.
